History

Reflecting the rich history of Oklahoma City’s historic “Deep Deuce” and Harrison/Walnut communities, The Hill recalls the ambience of an earlier time, while providing thoroughly-modern convenience and style. Capturing the essence of the ‘20s and ‘30s communities that once graced this very site, The Hill recalls the architectural detail and elegance of nearby cultural landmarks.

The Paul Lawrence Dunbar Library, renowned Aldridge Theater and Douglass School are among the area’s historic buildings that contributed their rich period details to the architectural plans for the homes at The Hill. Oklahoma City native and celebrated author Ralph Ellison wrote about the cultural vitality of the Deep Deuce community, as well as the role the accomplished musicians appearing at the Aldridge played in shaping American music.

As Oklahomans and their guests from across the nation visit the area’s new attractions like the Bricktown Ballpark, few of them are probably fully aware of the neighborhood’s history. For example, the Douglass School from which Ellison graduated once stood proudly on the site of the park’s home plate. The spirit of Ellison and his contemporaries lives on today, as The Hill pays homage to the vitality that characterized our central city from its earliest days.
